Installing DriftSync

DriftSync is a free WordPress plugin, distributed on WordPress.org. Install it from your dashboard in under a minute — no account, no license key, and no external service required to run the full local loop.

Requirements

DriftSync runs on any reasonably current WordPress install:

  • WordPress 6.2 or newer — it uses the block-editor and global-styles APIs introduced in recent releases.
  • PHP 7.4 or newer. PHP 8.x is fully supported and recommended.
  • A user account that can manage plugins and options (an administrator on a single site, or a super admin on multisite).

Install from WordPress.org

  1. In your WordPress admin, open Plugins → Add New and search for DriftSync.
  2. Click Install Now, then Activate.
  3. A DriftSync entry appears in the admin sidebar. Open it to reach the Export, Apply, and History screens.

Prefer to install by hand? Download the ZIP from the WordPress.org plugin directory and upload it under Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.

Free vs Pro

The free plugin is not a trial — it runs the entire core loop on a single site, with file-based config bundles, forever. You only need Pro once you want to connect sites directly or operate a fleet.

Note

You never need an account to use the free plugin. DriftSync Cloud is an optional, Pro-only add-on — opting out of it never removes any core-loop capability.

Activate DriftSync Pro

Pro is delivered as a companion plugin with a license key from the customer portal. Install it alongside the free plugin, then paste your key under DriftSync → License to unlock the Pro screens. Everything you already learned about the core loop stays exactly the same — Pro only adds new destinations and automation on top of it.

Next steps

With DriftSync active, head to the core loop to see how a change flows from selection to audit, or jump straight to exporting a bundle.
